Shifting Sand

Interactive dance performance using environmental data

Featured here in its first iteration at the Noosa Climate Tech Summit hosted by Forward Festival and Silicon Coast, Shifting Sand is a continuing project arising from interdisciplinary collaboration. Developed in collaboration with artist Brian Keayes and coastal geographer Javier Leon, this piece uses beach monitoring imagery taken over three years of Burgess Creek entering Perigian Beach to generate an interactive field of synthesised sand. Throughout the performance, the sand's reaction to human movement becomes increasingly unpredictable and erratic, generating fractal patterns of turbulence that visually represent the chaotic repercussions of human intervention in coastal environments.
